Blue is a handsome 13-week-old Anatolian Shepherd puppy who came to us from a farm. He was initially purchased from a breeder but the family realized they weren't equipped to handle a giant breed puppy who needed more training than they could provide. Blue is a quick learner and we're confident he'll thrive in a home that can give him the structure and guidance he needs. Blue was adopted as a puppy and spent a few years living with sheep and two other Livestock Guardian Dogs (LGDs). He was an excellent perimeter guardian, but he did develop a habit of chewing on the sheep's ears when they were in their overnight pen. Despite having plenty of toys and bones, this behavior persisted, and after exhausting all other options, his family decided he needed to return to us. We've spent the last month allowing Blue to acclimate to our environment in a barn kennel with a large dog run, where he could observe and hear our other goats and LGDs. He's since graduated to supervised time in a small corral and now the pasture, where he's been interacting positively with the other dogs and showing no interest in the goats beyond a brief sniff. He's a polite boy who respects when other dogs aren't interested in playing and seems to view the goats as part of the scenery.
Ideal Home
Blue would be a wonderful guardian for a property of at least one acre with a secure fence. He would also do well as a companion for goats in the right situation, provided he has at least one other LGD to share the pasture with him.
Ongoing Health
No specific health issues are noted at this time.
Training & Support
Blue previously had a habit of chewing on sheep ears. While this behavior has not resurfaced since his return, it's something to be mindful of. He's learning to respect boundaries and has shown good manners during introductions.
