About Archie

Meet Archie – a very smart, easygoing, and happy dog looking for his forever home! He is a delightful mix of American Eskimo and West Highland Terrier, two years old, and weighs 24 pounds. Archie has beautiful white fur that sheds a small amount, and expressive dark brown eyes. He was surrendered along with an older Shih Tzu due to his owner going into hospice care. Archie loves to explore and enjoys the fenced yard at his foster home, as well as several long walks per day in the neighborhood. He walks nicely on the leash with minimal pulling and shows curiosity towards other people and animals without barking. In fact, Archie's foster mom has only heard him bark once or twice! He has a strong interest in squirrels and wild turkeys, but he simply watches them. He once saw a coyote from a distance and, thinking it was a playmate, went into a play posture until his foster mom intervened.

Ideal Home

Archie would thrive in an active home where he can get plenty of exercise and walks. He would prefer not to be left alone for more than five hours at a time. Due to no experience with young children, Archie is best suited for an adult-only home or a home with older children who have dog experience. He would enjoy a dog playmate but would also be content as an only dog.

Ongoing Health

Archie is neutered, heartworm negative, up-to-date on all vaccinations, and microchipped. He recently had a dental cleaning and has very nice teeth! He is currently slightly overweight and would benefit from a diet to reach a healthy weight of around 20 pounds.

Training & Support

Archie is completely housebroken and has used potty pads indoors on occasion. He gets along great with the dogs in his foster home but is a bit too boisterous for the smaller resident dogs. For this reason, he is fed and given treats separately from other dogs to proactively prevent any scuffles. Information on how he does with cats is unavailable. Archie is comfortable on furniture, which is permitted in his foster home. He sleeps in a large crate at night next to his foster mom’s bed and is also crated when the family is away.
