Archie is an 8-year-old, 70-pound Sheepadoodle with a non-shedding coat. He's a sweet, affectionate boy who loves to cuddle and be by his people's side. Archie is a highly trained and house-trained dog who knows many commands and tricks. He enjoys meeting new people and is great with children, though he can get a bit too excited during play and may playfully mouth. When play gets too boisterous, Archie benefits from a short break to settle down. He also makes a good watchdog, alerting you to visitors. Archie is looking for a home where he can be a central part of daily life and receive plenty of attention and quality of life.
Ideal Home
Archie would thrive in a home where he can be a cherished and central part of daily life. Due to his hip dysplasia, homes that can avoid running, jumping, rough play with other dogs, and other high-impact activities are ideal. He has always been an only pet, so a home without cats is preferred, and we don't know how he would do with them.
Ongoing Health
Archie has hip dysplasia in both hips, which is managed by limiting high-impact activities. He also has a compulsive paw-licking habit when left alone; a cone is used overnight and when he's home alone to prevent irritation and potential infection. Like many doodles, he can be prone to ear infections, seasonal allergies, and has a sensitive stomach, which are managed with routine care and a sensitive-stomach diet. He is microchipped and up-to-date on vaccinations, except for Bordetella. He recently had a professional dental cleaning.
Training & Support
Archie is a well-trained dog who knows numerous commands and tricks. He is eager to please and loves being part of the action. While he settles down when asked, he may need a reminder or two. His enthusiastic greeting style can sometimes be met with less than enthusiastic responses from other dogs, so calmer interactions are preferred. He wears a Gentle Leader on walks as he can sometimes pull and gets excited when he sees other dogs.
