Meet our guy… #Winger (also lovingly known as our Wing-Ding).
Winger has been part of the HHPP family since 2019. While some dogs pass through a shelter, others end up spending years waiting for their turn, and that has been Winger’s story. The shelter is the only place he has ever truly known as home. It’s where he learned to trust, where he learned what love feels like, and where he made his little circle of volunteer friends who show up for him every single day.
Last month, Winger finally got to leave the shelter for a bit and experience life in a home. He did great with the cat in the home, but the family realized they simply weren’t quite ready to take on the responsibility of a dog right now. So Winger came back to us, through absolutely no fault of his own. This post is about him, celebrating him, and finding him the place where he can finally live out the rest of his years the way he deserves… in a home.
Winger can be a little people-selective and he is fearful of men, so he appreciates slow introductions and a calm environment. He isn’t broken, he’s simply a dog who has spent far too long without a place of his own. What he needs is patience, understanding, and someone willing to give him the chance he’s waited years for. Winger was originally rescued from a local airbase, which is how he got his name. Over the years he’s loved playgroups, toys (he absolutely lives for toys), and his favorite summer pastime - splashing in kiddie pools, chasing the hose, and flashing that big goofy smile. Even after all these years, that smile still lights up the shelter.
Ideal Home
Winger would thrive in a quiet, peaceful home. He is not a good fit for homes with small children. He is also dog selective and would do best with calm dogs. He did well with a resident cat.
Ongoing Health
Winger is a healthy 8-year-old, 75 lb boy.
