BUTTERSCOTCH

Butterscotch is an outgoing girl who unfortunately had to spend her first ten days at the shelter under quarantine. Now that she has recovered, she is excited to meet new people and play with new toys! Butterscotch is a very playful pup with both humans and toys, and she does settle nicely after playtime. She would thrive with a combination of regular exercise and mental enrichment, such as food puzzles, scent games, and learning new tricks.

Ideal Home

Butterscotch needs a human who has experience managing resource guarding using positive methods like trading up and building confidence. She is intrigued by other dogs but also uncomfortable interacting with them, so she would do best as an only dog. Butterscotch can also be sensitive with her tail and may jump on counters if food is available and when excited. An adult-only home will be the best fit.

Training & Support

Butterscotch has engaged in resource-guarding with food. Dogs who are worried their favorite items will be taken away can learn they don't have to feel anxious. Trading up (offering a toy or food item of equal or higher value) will help build confidence and keep everyone safe. Positive reinforcement will help Butterscotch learn that good things happen when all paws are on the ground.
