About Rufio

Meet Rufio, a 66-pound Cane Corso mix who is working on gaining some much-needed weight to reach his ideal 75 pounds. This sweet boy was found wandering the streets in early January 2026 and is gradually learning that humans can be trusted. Rufio is shy and quiet with a gentle temperament. It takes him a little time to warm up to new people, but he quickly started following his foster mom, seeking affection, and snuggling up on the couch and bed once he felt comfortable.

Rufio adores his foster mom and her two children, ages 9 and 11, with the 9-year-old being his absolute favorite. He's a bit intimidated by his foster dad but has shown no aggression, simply retreating when he feels overwhelmed. His energy level is low to medium; he enjoys evening walks and doesn't react to people or other dogs. While his leash manners are improving, they are already quite good. He's not a vocal dog, only whimpering softly when excited or uncertain, and he occasionally lets out a funny howl when his foster mom leaves, which lasts only a couple of minutes.

He's friendly with dogs and currently lives with two senior Chihuahuas who seem to have him trained! Rufio is very accommodating and lets them lead the way, staying out of their path without any resource guarding issues. He would thrive with calm, well-mannered canine companions who can help him gain confidence. Rufio is house-trained, signaling when he needs to go out, and is reliable in the backyard and on walks. He is also crate-trained for when his family is away, tolerating his crate well and never having accidents. He sleeps soundly through the night, either in his foster parents' bed or a crate in their room, as long as he's near his humans. This sensitive boy would benefit from a patient family who can provide him with a safe and loving environment.
