Meet our husky girl Lucy Van Pelt!
If you're looking for a cuddly co-pilot, look no further than Lucy Van Pelt. True to her name, she's a strong, intelligent gal with plenty of personality and a heart of gold. Her foster family says, "She is the fifth husky our family has fostered and by far the smartest!" With her piercing blue eyes, she might look like she's judging you, but she is actually an absolute love bug who is deeply devoted to her pack. At 4 years old and 45 lbs, Lucy is incredibly smart and highly treat-motivated; after just a week of obedience training, she has already shown remarkable results and is eager to keep learning. Lucy comes from an unfortunate background – she was surrendered to an open intake municipal shelter because her family couldn't manage a skin condition, and sadly she went onto the shelter's at-risk euthanasia list. When we saw her sweet face, we had to jump in and pull her.
Ideal Home
Lucy would do best in a work-from-home environment or in a household with other dogs to keep her company during the day. She is fantastic at pacing herself; during quiet hours, she happily hangs out on her bed or sits on the deck watching the squirrels. She is great with both dogs (living with a foster sibling) and most likely cats (has made initial introductions), making her a wonderful fit for a multi-pet home.
Ongoing Health
Lucy's skin and scabs are healing perfectly, and she is thriving on healthy foods.
Training & Support
Lucy is incredibly smart and highly treat-motivated. She has already shown remarkable results in obedience training and is eager to keep learning. She is house-trained and responds well to a structured routine that includes plenty of exercise. True to her husky roots, she is beautifully vocal and will let out a howl if she's excited or if her dinner is taking too long, but she is a polite hostess who doesn't bark at visitors. She is described as a "quick learner" who is "devoted to her pack." To keep her happy and content, Lucy thrives on a routine that includes two 45-minute walks a day alongside a 30-minute exercise session for running, fetching, or playing. For afternoon entertainment, she loves working on chew toys or enjoying frozen treats.
