A little about them
Arthur is a sweet, loyal, goofy dog who has been waiting over six months for his forever home. After arriving in poor condition, he has blossomed in foster care and is learning how wonderful it is to feel safe, loved, and comfortable.
Arthur is house-trained, can be left alone for up to eight hours without accidents or destruction, enjoys treats, follows household routines, sleeps late, rides well in the car, and loves his indoor ball and cozy blankets. He is loving once he trusts you and has a wonderfully funny personality.
Ideal Home
Arthur needs a quiet, peaceful home, ideally in a quiet neighborhood with a fenced backyard. Busy city environments, elevators, noise, unfamiliar people, and other dogs can overwhelm him, and he may react to people and dogs while on leash.
He needs a home with no children under 12. Older, respectful children may be appropriate, but Arthur is frightened by unpredictable movements and does not enjoy being tugged on, leaned on, or handled roughly. He has lived with a cat and generally does well with cats, though he may react if repeatedly swatted. He has also lived with a female dog and done well with dogs his size.
Ongoing Health
Arthur previously had itchy, yeasty skin, a double ear infection, and significant hair loss. His skin is now much healthier, he is yeast-free, his hair is growing back, and he no longer needs medicated baths. He still experiences itchy skin, with allergies suspected, and daily Apoquel has helped significantly. His adopter should continue his veterinary care and work with a veterinarian on a long-term allergy plan.
Arthur appears to have some joint discomfort when jumping down and needs a little assistance getting into an SUV.
Training & Support
Arthur has made significant progress with leash skills while working with a professional trainer. He needs structure and should not approach unfamiliar people or dogs when overwhelmed. His trainer has offered to continue working with his adopter at no cost.
