Arya was adopted as a tiny puppy in 2022 at just 9 weeks old. Over time, life circumstances changed, and now 4 years later, Arya is searching for a new forever home. She is currently settling into a foster home with a familiar and trusted family member who knows her well and cares deeply about her. This has helped make the transition as gentle as possible, and Arya is already thriving. Arya is a 4 year old, 44 lb. Australian Cattle Dog Mix. She's currently living with a very shy, mild-mannered resident dog and Arya has been wonderful to her, encouraging her to come out of her shell through play and companionship. Until recently, Arya lived in a busy household with young children and adults who ended up working longer hours than originally expected. While she was loved and cared for, she may not have received all the guidance and confidence-building support she needed during her formative puppy stages. As a result, Arya can be nervous in unfamiliar situations and is cautious with strangers. That said, once Arya trusts you, she bonds deeply. She seeks reassurance from her person, follows them closely and forms an incredibly strong connection. While Arya has lived with children and continues to be around kids during visits, her sensitive nature tells us she would do best in a calm, stable adult home without the unpredictability that can come with young children. We are working with Arya using positive reinforcement to help her feel more comfortable with visitors. She warms up fairly quickly to women with patience, treats and gentle boundaries. Men tend to make her more nervous, and she will need time, understanding and consistency to feel safe. This is not likely to be a love at first sight adoption, as Arya is very attached to the people she trusts. However, once comfortable, she happily accepts pets, treats and loves showing off her tricks. As a working breed mix, Arya is highly intelligent and alert. She forms deep bonds, is very intuitive to changes in her environment and can be cautious until she feels secure. Because of her sensitivity and intelligence, multiple transitions can be challenging, so we are seeking a patient, committed adopter who understands the time and compassion Arya will need to truly settle in.
