Michael is a handsome 5-year-old, 14 lb, long-haired black and tan Dachshund. He's a joyful boy whose tail never stops wagging and is so affectionate he's practically a velcro dog. He'll follow you everywhere, shower you with kisses, and loves to lend a helping paw with whatever you're doing. Michael would do best in a home where someone is around most of the time, as he forms quick attachments.
Ideal Home
Michael would love a home with a securely fenced yard, as he's still learning to walk on a leash. He does well with other small dogs and would enjoy a playful, active canine sibling his size. Due to his food possessiveness, he needs to be fed in his kennel. He also requires a confident, smaller resident dog to help him gain independence and confidence. Michael wouldn't do well in an apartment setting and we don't believe he'd be a good fit for small children due to their unpredictable nature and noise levels.
Ongoing Health
Michael came to us with a flea infestation, ear infection, parasites, overgrown nails, and rotten teeth. He has received necessary veterinary care to address these issues.
Training & Support
Michael is working on his potty training and needs to be taken outside to go. He's learning quickly but appreciates having his person accompany him. He wears a belly band to help prevent accidents indoors. Michael is also a barker and will alert you to anything he perceives as a threat, including squirrels and passing neighbors. He can be nervous around new people, particularly when they are standing, and may be hesitant around certain men. Patience, calmness, and a willingness to build trust will be rewarded with plenty of snuggles and kisses.
