About Odie

Hi, I'm Odie! I'm a 4-year-old, 65-pound black Rottweiler mix with a heart full of love and a past that's made me a little anxious. I was found as a tiny puppy on the side of the road, and while my siblings found homes, I stayed with the person who loved me most. That early experience has made me a bit fearful of new things, but I'm working hard every day to be the best boy I can be! I'm neutered, house-trained, and on medication to help manage my anxiety, which has really made a difference. I might be shy with new people at first, but once I trust you, I'm incredibly loyal and gentle. I've been so sweet with my family's 5-month-old baby, and while I haven't met many other children, I think older, dog-savvy kids would be a great fit for me. I've only met other dogs when boarding, and I did well, but I haven't lived with them. I'm definitely not a cat fan, though! I'm a playful, smart pup who loves my toys and knows commands like "sit," "speak," and "shake." I really want to please, and I just need a patient person to guide me.

Ideal Home

I'm looking for a home with an experienced dog owner who understands fear-based behaviors. Someone patient, steady, and confident who can set clear boundaries with gentleness. I'm not the best fit for a timid handler or a first-time dog owner. I would do best in a household without young children, ideally 14 years or older, as I can become overwhelmed and have had a bite incident when startled. I need a home that can help me feel safe and learn to relax around strangers without feeling the need to defend the household.

Ongoing Health

I'm neutered and currently on Reconcile to help with my anxiety.

Training & Support

My anxiety can sometimes show up as protectiveness, and I might bark or growl at strangers. The crate is also a challenge for me and can be upsetting. When left alone, I do best with access to just one room. My family has even used a baby monitor to help me feel secure. With the arrival of the new baby, I've been more stressed, and sometimes I get into things like the trash or other objects. This isn't intentional naughtiness; I'm just feeling overwhelmed and need help learning to cope. I would benefit greatly from continued training to help me relax around new people and build my confidence.
