Hi there! My name is Drako, but my foster mom affectionately calls me "D." I've been with my amazing rescue for about two years, and for the last 13 months, I've had the pleasure of sharing a home with a fantastic four-legged foster brother. It's taken me some time to adjust to home life, as I can be a bit timid about new things. While I don't remember what led me to rescue, the lingering fear means I feel most secure with a canine companion by my side. I truly enjoy going on walks, whether it's just me and my foster mom, or with my foster brother and any other pups joining in. We go on walks every morning and night, sometimes short and sometimes long – I love them all! Sudden loud noises can startle me, making me want to hide or run for safety. Things like trash trucks and loud motorcycles can be a bit much, but my foster mom is patiently helping me to feel more comfortable by reassuring me and keeping me calm. My foster brother is also a great teacher, showing me how to "move forward" and trust that my foster mom will keep us safe. I'm not timid all the time, though! I absolutely love my crate for sleeping, relaxing, and enjoying chew toys and bones. I also enjoy being near my foster mom while she works, sometimes joining her in her office to "help" her de-stress. I have a big backyard to play in, but I prefer not to venture out alone as I can get nervous about birds and butterflies. However, with my foster mom by my side, I'm happy to explore and enjoy being brushed and petted. I haven't lived with cats before, but I don't think I'd mind having one as a friend. I have so much love to share and hope to find a family that understands my needs.
Ideal Home
I thrive in a home where I have the security of another dog. I also do best with owners who can help me navigate my fear of loud noises and unfamiliar situations. While I'm okay with birds and butterflies in the yard when my foster mom is present, I am nervous when I'm outside alone.
Ongoing Health
I am a healthy boy with no specific ongoing health concerns noted.
Training & Support
I am working on building confidence around loud noises. My foster mom is exposing me to these situations and providing reassurance, which is helping me to feel safer. Having a confident resident dog to show me the ropes has also been invaluable.
