Tanni is a beautiful approximately 8-year-old female Dogue de Bordeaux and hound mix, weighing around 85 pounds. She's a soulful and loyal girl who found herself in need of a new home after her owner passed away. Tanni has been with her foster family for over a year, blossoming and making great progress in various areas, including interactions with other dogs, resource guarding, kitchen manners, and behavior at the vet. She loves to cuddle on the couch, demand pets, and enjoys a good head scratch, butt scratch, or belly rub. Tanni also loves walks and car rides and is happy to accompany you on adventures, having visited various places like coffee shops, hikes, and even the American Dream mall.
Ideal Home
Tanni would be happiest as the center of attention in a home where she can be your one and only pet. She needs a home with children 10 and up who are mature enough to respect her boundaries and not leave tempting food items within her reach. While she doesn't require a fenced yard, she does enjoy lounging on the deck on nice days.
Ongoing Health
Tanni has successfully completed heartworm treatment and is now heartworm-negative. She is prescribed trazodone for anxiety, which can be administered as needed during thunderstorms.
Training & Support
Tanni can sometimes get growly and mouthy when being handled, such as when having her feet wiped, a harness or jacket put on, or when being petted in a specific way. While she doesn't intend harm, her reactions can be startling due to her size and vocalizations. She is mostly house-trained and crate-trained, though she might try to avoid her crate unless a special dental chew is involved. She can bark if her crate time falls outside her usual schedule. Tanni needs continued work on leash manners, as she can pull strongly when excited by other dogs or cats, though she's improved with redirection and treats. A prong collar is highly recommended for walks. She also exhibits some resource guarding tendencies, which have improved but will require careful management in her new home, especially initially. She is not suited for homes with overly assertive dogs.
