River is a beautiful 4-year-old Newfoundland x Great Pyrenees mix who is all Newfoundland when it comes to her gentle, devoted personality. She has settled beautifully into foster care and especially enjoys the company of her canine foster siblings. While she likes to play from time to time, she is happiest with calm canine companions and finds comfort in having another dog nearby. River loves being close to her humans and has done wonderfully with visiting grandchildren, especially older children who understand how to be gentle and respectful with dogs. She enjoys brisk daily walks and has lovely leash manners, making her a wonderful companion for a family who enjoys getting outside before relaxing together at home. River also adores being brushed and happily soaks up the attention. Her foster family jokes that she's always ready to start an emo band with her fabulous bangs and is even happy to wear a bow in her beautiful mane! River had to have her hind end and tail fur clipped short due to some matting, but it will soon grow back to full glory!
Ideal Home
River is looking for a home with a friendly resident dog to keep her company, and she needs a cat-free environment. She would also prefer a home with not many stairs to help protect her joints as she ages and to make life easier if arthritis develops in her senior years.
Ongoing Health
River was diagnosed with a tick-borne disease and is completing a course of antibiotics. She is expected to be ready for adoption as soon as her treatment is finished. She is heartworm negative, at a healthy weight, and otherwise doing very well. River also has mild hip dysplasia, which isn't currently affecting her quality of life but could be a consideration as she ages.
Training & Support
River has lovely leash manners and enjoys daily walks. She adores being brushed and is generally a well-behaved companion.
