About Apricot
Meet Apricot, a 6-year-old, 20 lb Cocker Spaniel with a heart full of cautious exuberance! Apricot is a rescue from a puppy mill and is now ready to embrace her newfound freedom. Her warm, apricot coloring perfectly matches her gentle and loving personality. She's known as "Happy Appie" by her foster family because she greets everyone with a wagging tail. While she's still learning about life as a beloved pet, Apricot tries her best to please and is eager to build confidence in her new world. She can be startled by loud noises and prefers a slow, gentle approach, but once she feels comfortable, she loves to explore her surroundings. She enjoys walks on a short leash, loves to chase squirrels in a secure fenced yard, and has even had successful pack dog walks. Apricot is a quiet, laid-back companion who loves to relax close to her humans. She bonds closely with her family and is happy to settle down for 3-4 hour periods when left alone, especially if she knows someone is nearby. She is house-trained and looking for a patient person to help her continue learning. Apricot is motivated by praise and affection and enjoys being brushed, though she will need professional grooming every few months. Her crate is her safe space, and she's a good traveler. Apricot would thrive in a quiet neighborhood, rural setting, or small town, away from busy roads. She's good with dog-savvy cats and most dogs, especially smaller ones, and would do well as an only dog or with a calm, mature, smaller canine friend. Because of her sensitivity to abruptness and noise, she would do best with older children over 10.
Ideal Home
Apricot would do best in a quiet home with someone who is frequently around and patient. She needs a secure, fenced yard and a quiet neighborhood, rural setting, or small town. She is not suited for living on a busy road or in an urban setting. Older children over 10 years of age would be a better fit due to her sensitivity to noise and abruptness.
Ongoing Health
Apricot has been spayed, microchipped, and is up-to-date on vaccinations. She has tested negative for heartworm and tick-borne diseases and has received all her deworming. She had mammary masses removed that were tested and found to be benign. Apricot also had a dental procedure with 8 extractions, and her mouth is now healthy. Future dental care may be required as she ages.
Training & Support
Apricot is motivated by praise and affection. She is still learning leash skills and could benefit from obedience classes for confidence building and socialization. She can be startled by loud noises and needs gentle redirection when heading towards something unacceptable. She has learned to hold it for potty breaks and knows when she gets regular outdoor time. She initially barked when left alone but learned to settle with redirection.
