Hi there, I'm Odie! I'm a handsome 4-year-old, 65-pound Rottweiler mix with a heart of gold, and I'm searching for my forever family. My journey started a little rough; I was found as a tiny puppy with my siblings on the side of the road. While my siblings found homes, I stayed with the person who loved me most. This early experience has left me with some anxiety and fear, but I'm working hard every day to overcome it! I bond deeply with those I trust, and once you're in my circle, you have a loyal companion for life. I'm incredibly gentle with my family's 5-month-old baby, always sweet and calm around her. I haven't been around many children, so I think older, dog-savvy kids would be the best fit for me. I haven't lived with other dogs, but I did well when I was boarded, according to the staff! Unfortunately, I'm not a fan of cats. I'm a playful, smart boy who absolutely adores my toys and loves a good case of the zoomies! I know commands like "sit," "speak," and "shake," and I genuinely want to please my people.
Ideal Home
I'm looking for a patient, steady, and confident experienced dog owner who understands fear-based behaviors. I need someone who can set clear boundaries while remaining gentle and supportive. I'm not the best match for a timid handler or a first-time dog owner. A household without young children, specifically under 14 years of age, would be ideal for me, as I can become overwhelmed. I also need a home where I won't be left alone for extended periods, and if I must be, I do best with access to only one room. My current family has even used a baby monitor to help me feel safer when they're not around!
Ongoing Health
I am neutered and house-trained. I'm currently on Reconcile to help manage my anxiety, which has also been beneficial.
Training & Support
My anxiety can manifest in different ways. I can be protective of my people, especially my mom, and might bark or growl at strangers. The crate is a challenge for me, and getting me inside can be difficult. Since the arrival of the baby, my stress has increased, sometimes leading me to get into things like the trash or other objects when I'm feeling overwhelmed. I need a home that can provide me with consistent structure, confidence-building, and a calm environment. I have had a single bite incident where I bit my owner's hand when she was pulling me away from the screen door as I was barking at the mailman. I would greatly benefit from training focused on helping me relax around strangers and teaching me that I don't need to defend the household.
