About Leila

Meet Leila, a delightful 6-year-old German Shepherd/Pit Bull mix who weighs around 40 pounds. She is a sensitive and loving soul who forms deep bonds with her people. Leila enjoys quiet days lounging by your side, but also has a playful streak, showing off her impressive jumping skills! She’s a fast learner, motivated by treats, and knows many commands, including sit, stay, place, down, jump, spin, shake, and “in between.” Leila is crate-trained, muzzle-trained, and e-collar trained, which provides her with structure and security. Due to separation anxiety, crating her when she's alone is recommended until she feels fully secure. Once settled, she is well-behaved and non-destructive.

Ideal Home

Leila would thrive in a peaceful, dog-free household with a large, securely fenced yard. She needs a home where her humans work remotely or have a flexible schedule to spend quality time with her.

Ongoing Health

Leila takes daily medication for incontinence and is prescribed trazodone for high-stress situations. She is up to date on vaccines and recently had a dental cleaning.

Training & Support

Leila can be wary of men and needs slow, patient introductions, as she may nip if she feels threatened. She can also be defensive when people enter her space, sometimes barking or lunging. Meeting new people outside for a short walk before entering the house together is a successful strategy. She needs a strong, confident handler on walks, as dogs are a trigger and she can be reactive. She walks best on a short lead and uses an e-collar to reinforce training and build trust. Leila has a high prey drive, so cats and small animals are not suitable companions. Continued structure and consistency are key, as she will pull with intent if she sees a squirrel or another dog.
