Mia is a bright, sensitive little soul who is over a year old. She was surrendered to us because her previous family didn't provide the guidance and structure she needed to grow into a mentally healthy adult. While she wasn't neglected in terms of food or shelter, she lacked the advocacy and boundaries essential for a young dog. We believe that dogs labeled as "bad" are often simply misunderstood or have developed unhealthy coping mechanisms due to a lack of support. Mia is one of those dogs, but she is absolutely worth fighting for!
Since arriving with us, Mia has shown us her true personality as she's settled in. She loves to run outside in any weather and is described as a joyous, energetic, and hilarious little sprite. She's spunky, friendly, and enjoys car rides. Mia is still very much a puppy at heart, full of curiosity and potential.
Ideal Home
Mia needs a person who is ready to learn, listen, and advocate for her. Her adopter must understand that reactive behaviors can be managed with consistency and education. She needs a home with structure, training, and routine, and an adopter who will protect her from overwhelming situations. She also requires a designated sleeping area in a kennel or tall x-pen.
Ongoing Health
Mia is on low-cost anxiety medication from our vet, which has been helpful in her management.
Training & Support
Mia has some behavioral challenges that are manageable with the right approach. She wakes with violence if startled and guards certain items, snapping if pushed. We've been working with her, and with the help of a trainer, we've learned tools that work for her. Her adopter must be willing to continue her training, use treats to trade for guarded items, and accept her as she is today while helping her grow.
