Monkey is a sweet girl, estimated to be between 2-4 years old, who had a very challenging beginning. She was found as a stray and brought to animal control in October 2024. When she first arrived at the rescue, she was very fearful of human touch and avoided all contact for the first 3-4 months. She has made incredible progress and now tolerates being touched, though she doesn't actively seek it out. Monkey is looking for a patient and understanding adopter who is home most of the time, as she experiences significant separation anxiety. She has been working on crate training and needs to be let out approximately every 4 hours to avoid accidents. This may require more frequent potty breaks in a new environment. It is crucial that she is crated when unsupervised because she tends to chew and ingest items, posing a risk of bowel obstruction. Monkey absolutely loves to play with other dogs her size and would benefit from a confident canine companion who enjoys roughhousing, as this helps her build trust with people. A securely fenced yard is also a must, as she is not fond of doing her business on a leash. We don't anticipate Monkey ever being a lap dog, and we are searching for a very special person who understands that earning her trust will be a gradual process. Due to her timid nature, she would not be a good fit for a home with children. She is spayed, heartworm negative, microchipped, up-to-date on vaccinations, and on heartworm preventative. Her adoption donation is $500.
Ideal Home
Monkey needs an adopter who is home most of the time due to her severe separation anxiety. She requires a securely fenced yard as she dislikes pottying on a leash. A home with another confident, playful dog of similar size is essential for her socialization and trust-building. She would not do well in a home with children.
Ongoing Health
Monkey is spayed, heartworm negative, microchipped, and up-to-date on vaccinations and heartworm preventative.
