Florence, also known as Flora, Flory, Lory, or Sweetpea, is a 3-year-old, spayed female Carolina Dog mix weighing 46 pounds. She's a playful and energetic girl who absolutely loves to wrestle and be chased. Flora enjoys a good romp and can play for hours, especially with another canine companion. She's been great with dogs ranging from a 35-pound Cocker Spaniel to a 60-pound Pyrenees mix, and she particularly loves showing affection to her current foster brother, Furman, with face licks. Flora is a total love bug who enjoys snuggling and can be a bit of a shadow, following her people around. She also loves car rides, sunbathing, and birdwatching. While Flora can be a work in progress, she is incredibly smart, eager to learn new tricks, and very submissive and affectionate. She promises to reward you with years of love and companionship!
Ideal Home
Flora would thrive in a home that is moderately active and where someone is often around. She needs dedicated outdoor playtime to be happy indoors. A home with no other pets, or with a well-balanced dog of similar age, size, and energy level, would be ideal. She needs an owner who will continue positive reinforcement training to help with her anxiety around new stimuli and people. Flora is nervous around new children and can be fearful of strangers, especially if they move quickly, so an adult-only household might be best at this time.
Ongoing Health
Flora has no known ongoing health conditions at this time.
Training & Support
Flora can exhibit leash reactivity, with behaviors like raised hackles, whimpering, and barking when on leash, though her foster parents have been working with her on this. She requires slow and guided introductions to new dogs. While she's made progress with positive reinforcement and minimal stimuli, she still needs consistent training to improve her leash manners and build confidence around new dogs and situations. She has shown some anxiety when crated at home, though she does fine in a boarding kennel. She is housebroken and can be left unsupervised outside of a crate without issue at home. She needs gentle reminders to take treats softly.
