Gizmo is a sweet 8-year-old, 11-pound Shih Tzu and Maltese mix who is learning to trust again after a difficult past. He came to us with long-standing ear infections and severe dental disease, but after receiving thorough veterinary care, his initial defensiveness has melted away, revealing a loving and affectionate companion. Gizmo enjoys cuddling with his foster mom, giving kisses, and most of all, the freedom to roam his foster home after spending too much time in a kennel. He absolutely loves to be outside and needs plenty of exercise, so daily walks are essential for his well-being and bonding.
Ideal Home
Gizmo thrives in a quiet, adult-only home where he can have all the attention to himself. He needs a patient and understanding family who can continue to help him work through his food and toy guarding behaviors. While he doesn't do well with children, he may become more comfortable with older children after a period of adjustment, so an occasional visiting child might be okay. A home with a fenced yard is a plus, as he loves to run and chase. He also craves a home where someone is present for much of the day, as he truly enjoys his people.
Ongoing Health
Gizmo has received comprehensive veterinary care for past ear infections and dental disease. He is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, and on heartworm and flea/tick preventative.
Training & Support
Gizmo's foster mom is actively working on a simple solution for his food and toy guarding behaviors, which is expected to resolve with continued patience and consistency. He is house-trained and enjoys his daily walks, which are crucial for his good behavior and bonding.
