Alika is a gorgeous and sweet 5-year-old girl who quickly forms a strong bond with her person. She absolutely adores water, especially when she can splash around with you! While we haven't had the chance to teach her to swim, we bet she'd love to learn. Alika is a true "velcro dog" and will happily follow you everywhere. She was wonderful with a toddler in her previous home and slept on the bed for cuddles with a young boy. She will need slow introductions to any families with small children to ensure a good fit. She doesn't play much with toys, but enjoys a game of fetch and loves to chase and splash in the water from a hose!
Ideal Home
Alika would do best in a home with at least one other male dog of similar size, as she can be a bit too rough with smaller dogs. We don't believe she's a good fit for homes with birds. Introductions to cats will need to be patient, and she may need to wear a muzzle during these introductions. She could thrive in a quiet household or an active one, as long as she gets plenty of attention and playtime. A yard is a plus, but she would also do well with 2-3 walks a day.
Ongoing Health
Alika is heartworm positive but has completed treatment and is recovering. She has allergies to chicken and chicken by-products and is currently eating salmon and lamb with sweet potatoes or brown rice. She is up-to-date on vaccines and is spayed.
Training & Support
Alika is house-trained and crate-trained. She walks well on a leash, though she does pull a little. She knows "sit," "stay" (though her stays aren't long), and "paw/shake." She is well-behaved at the vet.
