Hola! My name is Mateo, and I'm a handsome Foxhound/Labrador Mix (best guess!) who is approximately 5 years old and weighs in at a solid 64 lbs. I'm a sweet, affectionate, and easygoing boy who genuinely enjoys being around people. Life on the streets of Mexico City was tough, and I was found wandering alone, showing signs of malnutrition. Despite my difficult past, I remained friendly and curious, and a kind rescuer brought me to a boarding facility. Though my rescuer disappeared, the wonderful staff at Perrito's House continued to care for me, ensuring I received the nutrition, medical attention, and love I needed. My coat has grown back beautifully, and I've gained a healthy weight. Now, I'm ready to find the forever family I've been dreaming of! I long for a home to call my own.
I love receiving pets, attention, and cuddles, and I'm known for following my humans around hoping for extra scratches and kisses. While I'm comfortable and affectionate with familiar people, I can be a bit shy or fearful around new faces. I would love an adopter who can help me build my confidence with new people over time. I'm a calm and laid-back guy who still enjoys gentle play sessions with humans and other dogs. My ideal day involves a leisurely walk followed by curling up beside you for some quality cuddle time. As with all rescue dogs, I will need time to settle into my new home, so patience and understanding will help me feel safe and confident.
Ideal Home
I'm looking for a home that can help me build confidence with new people. I enjoy gentle play and would be happy to join you for calm strolls. I'm comfortable eating near other dogs, but I prefer they don't try to eat from my food bowl.
Ongoing Health
I am neutered, vaccinated, and microchipped. I will be tested for Heartworm etc. before flying to Canada. It's not uncommon for rescue dogs to require dental work after adoption, and adopters should be prepared for these potential costs.
Training & Support
I am good on leash and enjoy calm, leisurely walks where I can explore. Continuing my leash manners training will be beneficial, and a well-fitted harness will help me succeed. I am a work in progress with housetraining, and frequent potty breaks with positive reinforcement will help me learn in my new home.
