Merle is a young cattle dog mix with a sharp mind, a loyal heart, and a story that started rough long before he ever had a chance to choose otherwise. He was born into difficult circumstances in rural East Texas and raised as a bottle baby alongside eight siblings after his mother, a feral dog, could not safely care for the litter. From the beginning, Merle has had more to navigate than most dogs do in a lifetime. He also overcame a serious leg injury as a puppy and kept right on going. Today, Merle is looking for something very specific: the right fit. He is not the kind of dog who wants to be everybody’s best friend, and that’s okay. Merle tends to prefer a smaller circle and a calmer environment, but he bonds deeply with his people. What we’ve learned is that busy city life, frequent stimulation, and a lot of moving parts are not his best lane. Merle would be happiest in a quieter home with structure, consistency, and room to breathe. A rural, low-traffic setting would likely suit him well.

Training & Support
Merle has some guarding tendencies and sensitivity around stress. This is not a beginner dog. Merle needs someone who sees value in a dog with depth, instincts, and personality—not just convenience. He is smart, capable, resilient, and deserving of a home that fits who he actually is. If you are experienced with herding breeds, working-breed temperaments, or dogs who need a little more understanding and a little less chaos, Merle may be the right dog for you.
