Meet Rex! He's a 5-year-old Rotti/Shepherd mix (by appearance only) who is 100% teddy bear. Rex is a happy-go-lucky boy who is currently living in foster care with his four canine siblings. He knows his basic commands and is building his confidence with longer duration stays and commands like "leave it" and "place." Rex is crate trained and doesn't mind going into his crate when asked, especially if there's a tasty reward! He's also been trusted alone outside of his crate for several hours without any destructive behaviors. Rex is fully house-trained and has not marked in his foster home, even though there are other dogs.
Ideal Home
Rex would thrive in a home with another dog as he loves being around his foster siblings. He would also do well in an environment where his owners have confident handling skills or are willing to invest in a few obedience classes to ensure they can provide him with a successful future.
Ongoing Health
Rex is recovering from painful skin ulcers, which appear to be food-related allergies. All adopters must be cautious of certain areas as he continues to heal, as touching them causes him concern. He is currently on a raw diet and is slowly being weaned off of Apoquel using a holistic approach. Rex is looking for an adopter who will continue his recovery using holistic means, as his current medication has some safety concerns.
Training & Support
Rex is good on leash and is learning to manage his excitement when it's time for walks, including some leash-grabbing behavior which is being addressed with the "leave it" command. He's learning boundaries and to focus on handler cues during walks. He doesn't bark when other dogs do and is learning to respect other dogs' personal space.
