A little about them
Budd is a very sweet, gentle, cuddly young dog who loves people, other dogs, outdoor time, and relaxing on a cooling mat. After being rescued from rural fields in Ontario and treated for severe sarcoptic mange, his fur has grown back and he is long past the contagious stage. He is looking for a patient, compassionate home willing to support his ongoing medical and training needs.
Ideal Home
Budd is good with children, cats, and other dogs. He enjoys playing with dogs but is still learning social cues and when to take a break. A secured backyard is preferred, as he is accustomed to spending calm outdoor time in a yard. He is affectionate, friendly, and enjoys cuddling for naps.
Budd has neurological and mobility challenges. He experiences seizures approximately once per month, occasional head tremors, slight mobility deficits, and difficulty with a full flight of stairs. He can manage three to four stairs. He is not affected by thunderstorms, fireworks, or vacuums.
Ongoing Health
Budd experienced severe sarcoptic mange before rescue; he has been treated, his fur has regrown, and he is no longer contagious. He has epilepsy with seizures that typically last about 20 seconds, and he takes 30 mg of phenobarbital with his food. An MRI found no secondary neurological concerns. His medication costs less than $50 per month, though costs may vary by veterinarian.
Budd is not yet neutered. His neuter will be completed after adoption by a Mattie’s Place veterinarian, at the rescue’s expense, once his seizure management is stable. The adoption fee includes vaccinations, deworming, flea and tick prevention, a nose-to-tail health exam, dental or other surgical care if needed, and 30 days of Trupanion pet insurance for new, non-pre-existing illness or injury.
Training & Support
Budd is housetrained but may occasionally need a pee pad and may have accidents during the first week in a new home. He signals that he needs to go out by walking in small circles. He sleeps in a crate overnight, wakes once to go outside, and sleeps best with background noise. He knows his name and responds to simple commands such as “out” and “come here.” He is working on mouthing and pee pad training, and he enjoys chewing bully sticks.
