Gingersnap is a 9-year-old, 9lb Pekingese mix who is as funny and spunky as she is adorable! We don't know her full backstory, but she was found as a stray in Houston, and it's likely she didn't have an easy life before entering the city shelter. Thankfully, a kind shelter employee sent us photos and videos, and we couldn't resist breaking her out to give her a much-deserved fresh start. Ginger is a friendly, confident girl with a low to medium energy level. She's playful with most dogs, especially other small pups, and has a particular fondness for one of the resident pups in her foster home, constantly trying to engage him in play – it's truly heartwarming to watch!
Ideal Home
Ginger's ideal home would include another very playful small dog, as she enjoys both active play and relaxing. Her adopter should be committed to continuing basic command training for her safety. While she's confident and would do well in many home environments, due to her tendency to be startled, a home without young children would be best.
Ongoing Health
Gingersnap is currently undergoing heartworm treatment and will be ready for her forever home in September.
Training & Support
Ginger is potty trained, crate trained, and has shown no separation anxiety when left alone. She enjoys her crate as a relaxing space. While she's gotten used to her routine and humans, she can be startled and let out a little shriek. Continued training in basic commands is recommended for her safety, and consistency will help her continue to feel secure.
