Dixie is a beautiful 8-month-old husky mix with the most captivating blue eyes! She weighs around 25 lbs and her mom, a spaniel mix, was adopted. We don't know who Dixie's dad is, but based on her mom's size, Dixie is not expected to get much bigger than 30 lbs. Dixie and her mom were rescued from a dangerous situation on the highway, and thankfully, a kind person was able to coax them to safety. Dixie is a very smart and eager learner, already kennel trained and working on new commands. She absolutely loves other dogs and gets along wonderfully with dogs of all sizes. Dixie is still learning to trust humans and would do best in a home with patient, understanding, and gentle people. Having another dog in the home would be a great confidence booster for her, but if that's not possible, regular playdates or doggy daycare would also be beneficial. She's discovering the joy of playing with toys and is sure to bring a lot of fun to her new family.
Ideal Home
Dixie would thrive in a home that can offer patience, understanding, and gentleness as she continues to build her trust in humans. Another dog in the home would be highly beneficial for her confidence.
Ongoing Health
Dixie has been spayed, is heartworm negative, and is up-to-date on age-appropriate vaccinations, flea/tick and heartworm prevention, and dewormer. She will receive a clean bill of health from a licensed veterinarian prior to transport.
Training & Support
Dixie is kennel trained and is learning commands. She is very smart and eager to learn, and with some one-on-one attention, she will master them quickly. She is still learning to trust humans and will benefit from a patient and gentle environment.

Transporation
Dixie is currently located in a temporary sanctuary near the Texas/Mexico border. We only adopt to the Central US and the East Coast. The adoption fee includes transport from Texas to the following locations every 2-3 weeks: Albany and Latham, NY; Wells and Brattleboro, VT; Willington, New Haven, and Dayville, CT; Port Chester, NY; Dayton and Akron, OH; Grove City and Bloomsburg, PA; Ridgefield and Mt Laurel, NJ; White Marsh/Elkton, MD; and Falls Church, VA.
