Meet Iris! This sweet girl is about 3 and a half years old and is a shepherd/black mouth cur mix. Iris is fully vaccinated, microchipped, spayed, and ready to find her forever family! She's a compact 47 pounds of pure affection and playfulness. Iris was rescued from a high-kill shelter in Texas along with her siblings, and she's the last one waiting for her happily ever after. She's a goofy, loving soul who, with a little time and patience, will show you just how special she is.
Ideal Home
Iris would be a dream for someone working from home, especially in a quieter environment away from the hustle and bustle of city streets. An outdoorsy lifestyle with access to trails or open spaces would be ideal for her. She's best suited for an adult-only home, as she hasn't been around young children and would benefit from an environment where her need for boundaries is respected. She's dog-selective and does best with slow, intentional introductions.
Ongoing Health
Iris is healthy, fully vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed. She does exhibit some food and resource guarding behaviors towards other dogs, so she should be fed separately if there are other dogs in the home.
Training & Support
Iris is fully potty trained and crate trained and considers her crate her sanctuary. She can be reactive to other dogs on leash, especially when they get too close. She would benefit from an owner who knows how to create distance and set her up for success on walks. While she can be dog-selective, she has built genuine friendships with dogs in her foster home with slow introductions and by keeping food and toys out of the mix during play. She needs consistent training and confidence-building to continue her journey.
