Chido

Charming Chido is a nearly 4-year-old American Bulldog and possible Boxer mix, weighing a healthy 63 lbs. He's come a long way from the streets of Houston to a loving home and has a gentle nature, evidenced by his love for cats and his ability to make friends easily with both animals and people. Chido enjoys short walks, playing with toys, and a good amount of sleep. He is gentle with children and most dogs, though he is selective with canine companions and prefers those who don't try to dominate him or jump on him.

Ideal Home

Chido deserves a patient household where someone works from home or is retired, as he suffers from separation anxiety and would benefit from a relaxed companion to hang out with. He is an inside companion and not an outside dog.

Ongoing Health

Chido is heartworm positive and is currently on slow-kill medication (Heartgard), which is a low-cost monthly pill. He should be tested annually to monitor his heartworms. He also suffers from occasional hip arthritis, which can make it difficult for him to move initially. This has only happened twice since he's been in foster care and is managed with rest and hip massage. X-rays showed inflammation but no broken bones. Aside from these conditions, Chido is a healthy and loving companion.

Training & Support

Chido walks well on a leash, knows basic commands, and is potty trained. He can be frightened by loud noises like thunder, lightning, and fireworks, and will need comforting during these times. With reassurance, he calms down quickly.
