Horacio

Meet Horacio, a sweet Chihuahua mix who's about 2–3 years old and weighs 16 lbs. His past was heartbreaking; he was found tied up, neglected, and mistreated, but those dark days are far behind him. Horacio is a gentle, affectionate boy who enjoys car rides, loves being around people, and is always ready to give kisses. He has a playful side, though he’s more on the calm and easygoing, making him the perfect companion for someone who wants both love and tranquility. He enjoys running, short bursts of play, and then relaxing with those he trusts. Despite everything he’s been through, Horacio’s heart is full of love and he is ready for a forever home where he will never again know fear, only kindness, care, and affection. Whoever adopts him will gain not only a loyal companion but also a little soul full of gratitude.

Ideal Home

Horacio would thrive in a home with a tall fence backyard and an active family that enjoys outdoor activities. He needs a family with a real intention to rescue a dog, with an open conscience about the needs of rescued animals, and experience in dog behavior and training, or a willingness to hire a trainer. High tolerance and patience are also key for this intelligent dog.

Ongoing Health

Horacio is up-to-date on his vaccinations, including DHPPI, Rabies, and Bordetella. He has been dewormed, microchipped, and tested negative for heartworm and the 4DX test. He is also on monthly Nexgard Spectra preventive for fleas, ticks, and heartworm. A spay/neuter certificate and health certificate are included. Please note that rescued dogs may need an adjustment period and may not be house-trained.

Training & Support

Horacio is not currently house-trained and will require patience and understanding as he adjusts to a new environment. He benefits from a safe and loving environment, a consistent routine, and clear boundaries to help him feel secure. Families with experience in dog behavior and training are preferred, or a commitment to hiring a trainer is essential for his success.

• Complete our adoption form and provide photos/videos of your home for review.
• If it's a match, we'll arrange a call or video chat to introduce you to Horacio and conduct a virtual home tour.
• We will speak with 1–2 of your references.
• Upon approval, you will sign the adoption contract and pay the adoption fee, which helps cover Horacio's vet care, microchip, and food.

Transporation

Horacio is currently fostered in Saltillo, Mexico and is ready to travel to the East Coast on our next cross-country trip. Transportation is available door-to-door for a fee of $400 USD. We organize 3-4 trips per year, and our contracted transport company will escort pets across the border into Texas or to the nearest US-Canada border for Canadian adoptions. You will receive real-time updates throughout the journey in a private Facebook Messenger group.
