Rufus is a spirited 3-year-old, 26-pound bundle of energy who found himself surrendered due to his owner experiencing homelessness. He embodies the quintessential Cattle Dog spirit – energetic, demanding, and with a definite bossy streak! Rufus lives for a ball, and if you have a strong arm and a willingness to play fetch for hours, you'll quickly become his favorite human. Beyond his love for toys, he’s a fantastic companion for walks, a motivated running partner, and will happily join you on road trips. He's exceptionally smart and eager to please, making him a quick learner, as expected from a working breed. Rufus has had a challenging past and is searching for a patient owner who can help him build confidence and trust, reassuring him of a stable future with consistent meals, reliable companionship, and a comfy bed.
Ideal Home
Rufus is best suited for an experienced herding or working breed owner who understands how to channel his intelligence and energy. He thrives with an adventure buddy for hikes, runs, and road trips, and most importantly, someone to throw a ball with endlessly. He would prefer to be the only dog in the home to fully focus on building his confidence and not have to compete for resources. Young children are not ideal for Rufus, though older, respectful children aged 12 and up may be okay.
Ongoing Health
Rufus is neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, microchipped, and has been dewormed. He also comes with a Healthy Start Certificate from VCA Hospitals, which includes a $250 health credit (restrictions apply), and two free vet visits.
Training & Support
Rufus is not recommended for first-time dog owners. His intelligence and energy require a knowledgeable handler to guide him. He's looking for someone to help him build confidence and trust.

- Adoption events are held Saturdays and Sundays from 10 AM to 4 PM at our Adoption Center.
- Please bring all family members and any resident dogs for a meet and greet.

Rufus is located at our Adoption Center, next to CAL Ranch at 232 North Jones (I-95) Suite 170.
