Alder is a handsome 3-year-old Great Pyrenees mix who came to us from Texas, where the stray dog population is overwhelming. Thankfully, he is one of the lucky ones who made it out and is on his way to finding a loving, forever home.
Alder is a shy but friendly gentleman who is learning to express his excitement. He likely didn't receive much affection or attention in his past, but he definitely craves it. We suspect he'll master the Pyr paw in no time. Alder doesn't really know how to play with other dogs but seems interested and unsure. We think a home with a calmer, playful dog would be beneficial, and assume once he can decompress, he will come out of his shell. That said, he's a bit protective of his food, so he'll need to be fed separately from other dogs. He doesn't seem to mind cats and would likely do well in a home with children beyond the toddler years. A fenced yard would be ideal, but he does walk well on a leash, so as long as you're committed to daily walks, a home without a fence is acceptable. He likely will not stay close to home if allowed to roam freely in a yard.
Ideal Home
Alder would thrive in a home with a calmer, playful dog. He would also do well in a home with children beyond the toddler years. A fenced yard would be ideal, but he is also adaptable to a home without one, provided he receives sufficient daily exercise through walks. He will need to be fed separately from other dogs.
