Sandy

Sandy is a playful, affectionate Bouvier des Flandres who is learning to be a wonderful companion. After severe neglect and coat matting, she was rescued, groomed, spayed, and had her bulging eye removed. She enjoys playing with tolerant dogs, has a puppyish spirit, learns well, and walks very nicely on leash.

Ideal Home

Sandy would do best with adopters experienced with Bouviers or other herding or working breeds. She may be affectionate with children and could be a good fit for older children, but she is not placed with very young children. She is very likely not suitable for a home with cats. Her adopter must be able to visit her locally before adoption and be seriously committed to her ongoing eye care.

Ongoing Health

Sandy’s remaining eye is at risk for future glaucoma following her ophthalmology work-up at UCD VMTH. Two prescribed eye drops given once daily may postpone glaucoma for a long time; one medication is ordered from a New Jersey pharmacy and the other is available through UCD VMTH. She has been doing well on the medications, which are easy to administer.

Training & Support

Sandy has learned a lot about good companion-dog behavior and continues to learn. She is playful and puppyish, and she enjoys wrestling and playing chase with other dogs. She is not house-trained according to her records and walks very well on leash.
