Kemp is a funny, loving, and cuddly 1-year-old Husky/Shepherd cross with a fantastic personality! He came into foster from a remote Northern Ontario community, so his breed is a best guess – he's a true Rez dog! Kemp is very strong, determined, and smart. He could run all day if you let him, and if he gets to, he's the best cuddliest buddy for the rest of the evening and night. He sings the song of his people loudly and often when he sees something new outside, especially another dog. His vocals cannot be stopped at places like dog parks, the vet, and if his best friends are leaving or outside without him or there is prey in the yard!
Ideal Home
Kemp would thrive in a home with an active person or family who wants to run, hike, and play tug-of-war. An apartment or town setting would not be a good fit due to his vocal nature and high energy. He absolutely loves all dogs he meets, so another equally energetic dog would be amazing for him; an older dog might be annoyed by his endless energy as he loves to wrestle and chase! He is okay with dog-savvy cats and does not harm them, but he might chase if bored. He should NOT be in a yard with loose ducks or chickens due to his high prey drive. He would benefit from someone being home often, as he has too much energy to be home alone all day. He loves all people but becomes especially attached to the one person he exercises with, wanting a forever best friend to follow like a shadow.
Ongoing Health
Kemp has no known health conditions.
Training & Support
Kemp is treat-motivated, especially by real cooked meat, and is easy to train with this reward. He can be picky about his dog food and enjoys a little hot water and wet food mixed with his kibble. He is well house-trained and knows basic commands such as sit, lay down, shake a paw, stay, leave it, and take it, and out. Boredom may cause him to find a child's toy, so if he has plenty of his own toys, he is non-destructive to other belongings. He loves long-lasting bones and frozen peanut butter Kongs!
