Hi, I'm Odie! I'm a 4-year-old, 65-pound Rottweiler mix with a heart full of love to give, even though my past was a little ruff. I was found as a tiny puppy with my siblings, and while they all found homes, I stayed with the person who loved me most. That early experience left me with some anxiety and fear, but I'm working hard every day to overcome it. I'm a smart boy who knows commands like "sit," "speak," and "shake," and I really do want to please. I love my toys and sometimes get the zoomies, which are pretty fun!
Ideal Home
I'm looking for a patient, steady, and confident owner who has experience with dogs, especially those with fear-based behaviors. I need someone who understands how to set clear boundaries while still being gentle. I would do best in a household without young children under 14 years of age. I'm not a match for a timid handler or a first-time dog owner. I'm not good with cats. While I did well at boarding with other dogs, I haven't lived with them, so a home without other dogs might be best.
Ongoing Health
I'm neutered and house-trained. I'm currently on Reconcile to help manage my anxiety, and being neutered has been a great help too. My anxiety can show up in different ways. When I'm left alone, I do best with access to just one room. My family even used a baby monitor to help me feel safe. Since a new baby joined the family, my stress levels have increased, and I've sometimes gotten into things like the trash or random objects. I'm not trying to be naughty; I'm just overwhelmed and unsure how to cope. I have had a single bite incident where I redirected onto my owner when she was pulling me away from the screen door as I was barking at the mailman. I would do best going to a home that will provide me with training to teach me that I can relax around strangers and do not need to defend the household.
Training & Support
I can be nervous with new people at first, but once I trust you, I bond deeply. I can be protective of my person, especially my mom, and may bark or growl when strangers approach. The crate scares me, and getting me inside can be tough. I need someone who will help me feel safe and provide consistent structure and confidence.
