Louie is a charming 3/4 Beagle, 1/4 Pug mix, born on October 27, 2016, and weighs about 35 lbs. He's a master of the house, fully house-trained and leash-trained. In his previous home, Louie was the only dog and had a tendency to guard his food. He also developed a protective streak towards his mom. While he was great with his dad when his mom wasn't around, the arrival of a new baby in the household raised concerns about his protectiveness, and he did bite in the past.
Louie has been with us for a while and has shown remarkable progress. He's now completely bite-free and enjoys having his forehead rubbed. He sleeps peacefully with other dogs in his favorite human's bed, proving he's happily rehabilitated. He's now very good with dogs of all sizes and ages. He was even voluntarily fostered in our house, sleeping soundly in a doggie bed with many other beagles and a dedicated human, showing just how sweet he is. Living in a pack seems to agree with him! We've been very patient, allowing him to accept petting and touching on his own terms. He even has a sponsor as a holiday gift, making him a wonderful way to remember friends, family, and dog lovers!
Ideal Home
We are looking for an experienced dog family who will follow our guidance. Louie would do best in a home without young children. He can be an only dog, but he's also shown he can mingle nicely with other dogs.
Ongoing Health
Louie had a very recent good blood panel. He has no known health conditions.
Training & Support
Louie has previously shown resource guarding and protectiveness. However, with patience and understanding, he has shown significant improvement and is now bite-free. We recommend continuing with patient handling and positive reinforcement. He is house-trained and leash-trained.
