About Frankie

Frankie is a very special 10-year-old, 19-pound pup who is looking for a patient and understanding home. He was found at a suburban animal control facility and has since blossomed under the care of his foster mom, with the help of a veterinary behaviorist. Frankie is reliably housetrained and has a charming habit of "air chomping" when food is around – a funny way to let you know he's interested! His favorite things include walks, car rides, and anything orange. He's a smart cookie, knowing "sit," "tap," "turn," and "up," but he'll need a tasty treat to remind him of his skills!

Ideal Home

Frankie would thrive in a home without children or other dogs. He can be selective with cats and would likely do best with an independent feline friend who isn't afraid to tell him when to back off. Frankie prefers a detached home environment to minimize alarm barking at outside sights and sounds. He also needs a home where visitors are infrequent, as new people can be a significant stressor for him. A home where he can have a consistent routine and minimal surprises would be ideal.

Ongoing Health

Frankie is considered a special-needs dog due to anxiety that can lead to reactivity. He has been under the care of a veterinary behaviorist and is managed with medication. He experienced "sleep startle" in the past, and while this has been controlled with medication and careful management, it is crucial to never touch or startle him while he is sleeping.

Training & Support

Frankie has made great progress with his foster mom, but he will need an adopter who is committed to continuing his training and management. He needs to be kept on a leash when visitors are present, and his adopter must be prepared to advocate for him and manage interactions, both at home and in public. Frankie needs to be allowed to solicit attention and should not be subjected to looming or face-cupping. His adopter must understand "trigger stacking" and recognize that some days will be more challenging than others. Window watching is an anxious behavior and he is not allowed to do it. He is used to being crated when his foster mom is away and goes in willingly with a treat trail, and he is generally quiet when left alone.

Application Details:
