Holt is a 5-month-old Border Collie/Great Pyrenees mix with a sweet face, a good brain, and the excellent temperament of a puppy who is ready to be someone's very best idea. He is friendly, social, smart, and an all-around excellent young dog. Holt likes people, enjoys other dogs, he is fine with cats, and he is doing a very nice job at the whole puppy thing. He is still a baby, so he will need the usual puppy basics: structure, training, patience, supervision, and a family willing to help him grow into the wonderful adult dog he is clearly capable of becoming.
Ideal Home
Holt needs a fenced yard where he can run, play, explore, and burn off his puppy energy safely. He will do best with a family that enjoys a bright, engaged dog and understands that smart puppies are always learning, including the things no one technically meant to teach them.
Ongoing Health
Holt is a healthy puppy.
Training & Support
Holt is a puppy and will need all the usual puppy basics including potty training, crate training, socialization, and obedience training. Puppies can only hold it for one hour per month of age (i.e. a 4-month-old puppy can only go 4 hours without a potty break). We recommend crate training until Holt is at least one year old to prevent chewing on inappropriate things when you can't supervise. The more positive and varying experiences Holt has as a puppy, the better. Puppy behavior and life stages are equivalent to a human toddler. It takes at least a full year to have a calmer, well-adjusted dog. Patience is required and when your dog's behavior is a positive experience for you and those around you, your patience will be rewarded ten-fold, for years to come. Please do not consider adopting a puppy if you have not thoroughly thought through the pros and cons of having one. Any dog requires work and effort, but a well trained, well-socialized dog is more than worth the effort to get them there.
