Meet Doc, an 11-year-old, 42 lb gentle and sweet-natured boy who is settling into the good life and gaining confidence every day. He has a calm, respectful personality and gets along well with other dogs. Doc is also cat-friendly, showing more curiosity than anything, and has demonstrated good manners around other animals, never trying to be the boss. He has met neighborhood children and has done well during those interactions, appearing comfortable and friendly. While we haven't had extensive exposure to children, his easy-going nature has been encouraging. One of Doc's favorite activities is going for walks; he walks beautifully on a leash and truly enjoys exploring the world with his person. He likes to be by your side—a follower rather than a leader—but he's never clingy or demanding. Doc's story began with hardship; he was found struggling to stay afloat in a water retention pond and was likely abandoned. Because of that experience, he does show some signs of separation anxiety, which is understandable. The good news is that he has already made noticeable progress and continues to settle in more each day. He is crated when left home alone, which helps him feel secure. If you're looking for a kind-hearted companion who is sweet, loyal, and appreciative of a second chance, Doc may be the perfect match for you.
