Diego is a 2-year-old, 60-pound bundle of love who's overcome a tough start. He was surrendered by his previous owner and, through no fault of his own, ended up in a high-kill shelter. Thankfully, a rescue affiliate saved him, and he was vetted and started on heartworm treatment. Sadly, his first adoption didn't work out as he was a bit too energetic for his new home. He's now with a temporary foster and eagerly awaiting a family who can give him the stable, loving environment he truly deserves. Despite his past challenges, Diego is incredibly affectionate, loyal, and protective of his people. He's house-trained, knows basic commands like sit and down, and is great with adults and children. He's also very smart and eager to learn.
Ideal Home
Diego would thrive in an active home where he can run, play, and be a dog. He does have a very high prey drive, so no cats are allowed. He is also a jumper with fence-scaling abilities, so a secure yard is extremely important.
Ongoing Health
Diego is fully vetted and currently undergoing heartworm treatment, which the rescue is covering.
Training & Support
Diego is still learning to be a dog and needs an adopter who understands that healing takes time and patience. He is learning leash manners, structure, obedience, and trust. He can be overstimulated around other animals due to his past, so slow introductions are recommended, preferably with dogs his size.
