Darla is an 8-year-old Dachshund mix with a short, sleek coat. She was recently returned to us when her devoted Papa passed away and her Mom is undergoing medical treatments. Despite her age, Darla is as energetic as ever! She’s in great shape and has even shed a few pounds in foster care. She enjoys the company of other dogs but prefers to observe rather than play. Walks are a highlight for Darla; she loves exploring the outdoors and following her nose on adventures. True to her hound heritage, she can pull on the leash, so she’ll benefit from some leash training to help her walk more politely. Darla is exceptionally clean and house-trained. She’ll alert you to visitors with a friendly bark and loves meeting new people. Her previous home was with seniors, so she’s accustomed to a peaceful lifestyle. She hasn't had much experience with children and absolutely detests cats. Darla is a loving and loyal companion, always keeping watch from her foster parent's bed at night. She’s not a big kisser, but her devotion is clear. To manage her weight, she is fed twice daily with measured portions of Royal Canin Small Breed Adult Food. She’s not a picky eater and enjoys all types of food.
Ideal Home
Darla would thrive in a home with seniors or someone who works from home. She would also do well with older children who won't be overly boisterous. A family member who can take her on long walks daily would make her incredibly happy. A fully fenced yard is a must for Darla's new home.
Ongoing Health
Darla is spayed, up-to-date on all her vaccinations, tested negative for 4DX, and has been dewormed.
Training & Support
Darla can pull on her harness leash, which is typical for hounds, so she’ll need consistent training to walk nicely. She is very clean and house-trained, and she barks to alert you to someone at the door.
