Sandy is a sweet female Staffordshire Terrier mix, approximately 2 years old and weighing around 33 lbs. She was found as a stray in Saltillo, Mexico, in a vulnerable situation. After being rescued and spayed, she faced a serious health scare due to coagulation problems, requiring hospitalization and a slow recovery. Despite the challenges, Sandy is a fighter who has overcome a lot and is now ready to find her forever home. Her rescuers describe her as a grateful and loving dog who will protect her family.
Ideal Home
Sandy would thrive in a home with owners who have an open conscience about rescuing street animals and understand their need for protection and education. Experience with dog behavior and training is highly recommended, as is a high level of tolerance and patience. A fenced backyard is a must, and her new family should have the time and disposition to provide her with regular exercise.
Ongoing Health
Sandy has received a spay/neuter certificate, DHPPI and Rabies vaccines, Bordetella vaccine, and has been dewormed. She tested negative for heartworm and has a negative 4DX test certificate. She is currently on monthly Nexgard Spectra preventive for fleas, ticks, and heartworm and has a health certificate. She experienced significant weakness in her hind legs during her recovery, but with care, she has improved.
Training & Support
Sandy is not house-trained. The rescue organization emphasizes that due to the large number of animals they care for, they are unable to house-train each one. Potential adopters should be prepared to provide consistent training and guidance to help Sandy adjust to a home environment.
