Bankston is a loyal, sensitive soul wearing a suit of armor he never asked for. Underneath the fear and the walls he's built is a boy who wants so badly to be good, to trust, to love, and to feel safe again. He just needs the right person to help him remember how. Bankston and his sister Peanut Butter arrived at Castoff Pet Rescue for what was supposed to be a brief stay while their mom settled into a new home. We told them it was temporary. We believed it too. But the calls never came. The messages never came. Mom never came. Just two dogs left wondering what went wrong. While Peanut Butter has found a way to roll with it, Bankston has carried the weight of that heartbreak differently. He's scared, he's shut down, and honestly he's a little mad at the world. And who could blame him? He lost everything familiar in one moment. But that loyal, tender boy is still in there, waiting for someone brave enough to reach him. Bankston doesn't need perfect. He needs permanent. When this boy finally lets his guard down and decides you're his person, that bond will be unshakable. The love of a dog who's been broken and chose to trust again is unlike anything else in the world, and Bankston has so much of it saved up, just waiting for the right home to give it to.
Ideal Home
Bankston needs an experienced dog owner who understands that healing isn't linear. He tends to warm up more easily to men, but what matters most is patience, consistency, and a calm environment where he can decompress at his own pace. No chaotic households, just steady, quiet love and someone who won't give up when things get hard. The right person for Bankston will be experienced with dogs, especially nervous or shut-down ones, ready to start proper training right away, kind, patient, and consistent, and willing to love him even when he's scared to love back.
Ongoing Health
He's fully vetted and ready to go.
Training & Support
Bankston is currently scared and shut down from the trauma of being left behind. He can be guarded when he feels unsafe, but this is fear, not aggression. With structured training, clear boundaries, and genuine compassion, this boy has every potential to blossom. He's not looking for perfect, he's looking for someone who won't quit.
