Nola is a loving 37-pound, approximately 2-year-old Coonhound mix with a resilient spirit and a heart full of affection. She is wonderful with dogs, children, men, and women, and she is already house trained, crate trained, and walks well on a leash. Nola is very affectionate and thrives on human attention. She forms strong bonds with her people and has a naturally protective personality. Nola is also a very energetic young dog who loves to play and needs regular exercise and mental stimulation. She can destroy toys when bored or overly excited, so she would do best with an active family that can help channel her energy in positive ways. Her story is heartbreaking but also a testament to her strength. Nola and her sisters were abandoned on the streets of Houston as puppies. They survived by hiding underneath broken-down trucks while suffering from severe malnutrition and starvation. Tragically, two of her sisters were killed there in a brutal act of violence. Nola was also attacked with rocks and sticks, and during the assault her right leg became dislocated. Despite the injury, she escaped and survived. Today, she walks and runs well and does not let her past define her. Nola is searching for a forever home where she will finally know safety, patience, and unconditional love. She has already survived more than any dog ever should, and now she deserves a family that will cherish and protect her for the rest of her life.
