Custard is one of five adorable pups who came to us from a situation where two mom dogs had litters around the same time. These little ones were lucky to have two mamas to care for them! We're not sure about their dad, but we're told their mom is a cream-colored, short-haired dog weighing about 30 pounds, which seems to fit these pups. We've had DNA testing done on one of the littermates, but we're still waiting for the results. Our best guess is a mix that might include Eskimo dog, a smaller herding breed, Chihuahua, or Husky. Local dogs often have a diverse mix of up to 30 breeds! We anticipate Custard will be a medium-sized dog when fully grown, but adopters should be prepared to love them no matter their final size. At his vet check on July 7th, Custard weighed 5.5 pounds and was estimated to be 7 weeks old.
Ideal Home
Custard needs a home committed to early socialization! This means lots of new experiences with different sights and sounds, like vacuums and rattling garbage cans, and meeting people with hats, tools, bikes, and skateboards. Crucially, he needs ample opportunities to meet and greet dogs of all shapes, sizes, and temperaments. Simply living with another dog isn't enough; active socialization is key for developing good canine social skills. Puppy playdates, trips to the pet store, and puppy socialization classes, followed by obedience classes, are highly recommended. A tired dog is a happy dog!
Ongoing Health
Custard has been vet checked, vaccinated, and de-wormed. He will require two additional puppy vaccinations and a rabies shot at the adopter's expense. We require that he be spayed/neutered by 6 months of age. This procedure is covered by the adoption fee if performed at the PUP clinic.
Training & Support
Custard needs a dedicated adopter ready to invest time in his socialization and training. The early months are critical for him to learn the social skills necessary to be a well-adjusted dog with both humans and other canines.
