About Bruno
Hi there! My name is Bruno, and I'm a handsome 7-year-old blue merle Cattle Dog looking for my forever home. I'm about 39 lbs, though I might be a little more now. You can follow my journey and cheer me on over on Instagram at @gobrunogo721!
I was rescued from the West Los Angeles animal shelter in July 2023. When I first arrived at my foster home, I was a bit overwhelmed and startled. In my excitement to meet a new friend, I unfortunately nipped her hand. It seems I was still decompressing from my shelter experience. Since then, I've really started to open up and show my true colors! I absolutely LOVE playing fetch in the yard – it's my favorite thing! I also get excited to see some of my favorite humans and I love a good treat. I'm very treat motivated, which means I'm a quick learner! I already know how to sit, lie down, and shake. I do occasionally get startled and may snap to let a hand know to back away, but it's usually to create space. My foster realized I wasn't a big fan of crates, so I now have a comfortable pen area without a top, which I happily go into for a yummy treat. Walks are another favorite activity, though I do pull a bit. With some proper training, I'm sure I could be a great walking companion! My foster hasn't yet tried to wash me or clip my nails, as they wanted to build my trust first. I did enjoy a good rain shower though!
My past tells a story of being in and out of shelters. Some previous reports mention me being "very loving & cuddly," "very social and wanted to be around family," and that I "love water." I've also been described as "non-reactive to passing dogs in kennels and on his walks" and that I'm "treat motivated and rubs up against you for pets."
Ideal Home
I'm looking for a patient and loving home with someone who understands I'm a good dog that just needs a little extra help. Experience with dogs, especially those who need a little extra guidance, would be wonderful. I do well with other dogs at my current foster home, so I might be okay with other dogs, but perhaps less reactive ones would be best. A yard is a must for all my fetch games, or at least plenty of opportunities for walks and outdoor activities. Due to my background, I would likely do best in a home without children, as it might take me a long time to build trust with them.
Ongoing Health
I am up-to-date on all vetting, which includes my neuter, microchip, age-appropriate vaccinations, deworming, and flea preventative.
Training & Support
I'm very treat motivated and eager to learn, so I should excel with consistent training. I can snap if startled, so understanding my body language and giving me space when needed will be important. Building a strong bond with my new family is key.
