Iris was pulled from a high kill shelter in Texas with her siblings and is now the last one waiting for her forever home! At 3 and a half years old, she's a Shepherd / Black Mouth Cur mix and weighs in at a compact 47 pounds. Iris is fully vaccinated, microchipped, spayed, and ready to shower her new family with affection. She's goofy, playful, and genuinely sweet, but it takes a special person to see this side of her. Iris is a dog worth getting to know, and once she trusts you, she is ALL in! She loves fetch with tennis balls and is a tender, silly girl who's trying her best.
Ideal Home
Iris would thrive in a quieter environment, perhaps with access to trails or open space, away from the hustle and bustle of city streets. An adult-only home is ideal, as she hasn't been around children and her fear reactivity means unpredictable energy isn't a good fit for her. She would be a dream for someone working from home.
Ongoing Health
Iris is fully vaccinated, microchipped, and spayed. She does exhibit some food and resource guarding behaviors towards other dogs, so if she joins a multi-dog home, she should be fed separately.
Training & Support
Iris is fully potty trained and crate trained, viewing her crate as a sanctuary. She walks well on leash, though she can be reactive to dogs that get too close. She does best with slow, intentional introductions to new dogs and has learned to build genuine friendships with them. With continued consistency and training, her food and resource guarding behaviors are very workable. She knows sit, down, and wait, and is an absolute belly rub enthusiast.
