Meet Harvey! This handsome, approximately 3-year-old, 60 lb. male Flat Coated Retriever mix is a true sweetheart with a gentle soul. Harvey was rescued from a hoarding situation and is now looking for a patient and loving home to call his own. He's a smart boy who understands commands like "sit" and "lay down," though he offers them on his own terms – consider them optional! He loves to follow his people around and is known to be a bit of a shadow, always wanting to be near his favorite humans. While he's made great progress in building his confidence, Harvey is still quite shy, especially when meeting new people. He truly blossoms when he has other dogs around to guide him and show him the ropes. He's a big fan of stuffed animals, which seem to help him feel more comfortable and process his emotions. He's still getting used to being petted and receiving belly rubs, but once he trusts you, he'll lean right into your touch.
Ideal Home
Harvey would thrive in a home with at least one other well-adjusted dog, and more is definitely better! He needs a calm environment where he won't be overwhelmed by fast movements or large, boisterous groups of people. While children aren't an issue, any sudden or quick movements from people of any age can cause him to flinch. A patient family who understands his shyness and can let him grow at his own pace is essential.
Ongoing Health
Harvey is neutered and up-to-date on all his vaccinations. He is fully house-trained but does not yet know how to signal when he needs to go outside.
Training & Support
Harvey is still working on his confidence and can be shy around new people. Gentle introductions and positive reinforcement will be key to helping him feel secure. He loves stuffed animals and will pick up anything he can find, so it's a good idea to keep plenty of his favorites readily available.
