Meet Flossie! This big, beautiful lady has a powerful presence and a surprisingly tender heart. Flossie came to us after suffering severe neglect that led to the amputation of her front leg. She has healed beautifully and now moves through life with strength and determination. Once trust is built, Flossie's affectionate side shines. She loves attention, enjoys being petted, and will often follow her trusted people everywhere. Stop to say hello, and there is a good chance she will drop to the ground, roll over, and demand her favorite thing: a belly rub. She is also famous for her enthusiastic one-legged bear hugs, a Flossie specialty that everyone here adores. Flossie is always clean at our facility. She is not much of a toy dog, but she is very much an affection dog. For the right person, Flossie will be a loyal, deeply loving companion and a truly special bond for someone willing to earn her trust.
Ideal Home
Flossie will need a confident, experienced handler. She does best as the only dog in the home and would thrive in an adult-only environment where she can feel secure. She can be distrustful of both unfamiliar dogs and unfamiliar people, so she will need a proper adjustment period and someone who understands that trust takes time. A fenced yard would be preferred because walks are not always her favorite. Some days she wants to go, and some days she would rather stop, turn around, and call the whole thing off. A secure yard would let her move, explore, and get exercise at her own pace.
Ongoing Health
Flossie's front leg was amputated due to past neglect. She has healed beautifully and shows no ill effects from the amputation.
